2016 bed o roses handicap preview entries and odds


´╗┐Belmont Park in Elmont, New York will play host to the Grade 3 Bed o' Roses Handicap on Saturday, June 25. Fillies and mares four years old and upward will be featured when they take to Belmont Park's dirt track and race seven furlongs for the winner's share of the $150,000 purse.

Last time out was a disappointing fourth as favorite in the Grade 1 Humana Distaff at Churchill Downs May 7 after an OK third in the Grade 1 Madison Stakes at Keeneland April 9 and a career defining win at 10-1 odds in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint. Before that was a decent second in the Grade 2 Gallant Bloom Stakes at Belmont Park September 26 and an Allowance Optional Claiming score August 26. Wavell Avenue has been just OK since her Breeders' Cup triumph and will be out to regain that form on a track she's posted two wins and a second place finish in four starts - from gate 2 Saturday. Joel Rosario rides the 123 pound highweight and overwhelming 6-5 favorite.

West Coast Chick 3-1 - Nicholas Zito trained mare has three wins, two seconds and a third place finish in 11 career starts. She enters off a career-best second in the Grade 3 Vagrancy Handicap on this track May 21 which followed an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Keeneland April 8 and a second and a third respectively in similar races at Gulfstream earlier this year. West Coast Chick has placed in her last four starts overall and will be after her first stakes score Saturday from gate 4. Manuel Franco has been tabbed to ride the second betting choice from gate 4.

Bar of Gold 4-1 - won her first three career starts - all at Aqueduct for trainer John Kimmel and has been up and down in eight starts since. By the Moon 6-1 - winner of the 2014 Grade 1 Frizette Stakes - Michelle Nevin trained filly has three wins, three seconds and a third place finish in 10 career starts. She was last seen running fourth in the Grade 3 Distaff Handicap at Aqueduct April 17 which followed a third in the Grade 1 Test Stakes at Saratoga August 8 and consecutive runner-up finishes - the Grade 1 Acorn Stakes last June 6 at Belmont Park and the minor Parx Oaks in May of last year. She also had a win in the minor Caesar's Wish Stakes in March and off-the-board finishes in two other graded stakes races - a fifth in the Grade 2 Forward Gal and an eighth in the 2014 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. By the Moon has placed in four of her last five starts overall but looks for her first win in 16 months Saturday when she leaves from the rail with Jose Ortiz aboard .

Mayla 10-1 - Bret Calhoun trained filly has placed in nine of 11 career starts - four wins, three seconds and two third place finishes. She makes her graded stakes debut on the heels of a nice three race win streak - an Allowance Optional Claiming at Churchill Downs May 28, the minor Orleans Stakes at Delta Downs November 21 and an Allowance here in October. Before that were two straight runner-up finishes in Allowance races. Maya has been trending upward ahead of this race and will be after her fourth straight victory Saturday. Luis Saez has the mount from post 5.

Pangburn 12-1 - Anthony Dutrow trained filly has recorded some decent results in her 14 race career - four wins, two seconds and two third place finishes. She finished second in the 2014 Grade 2 Pocahontas Stakes in her second career start, was second in the 2015 Grade 3 Iowa Oaks in June and also finished third in the Grade 3 Honeybee Stakes in March, 2015. Last time out was an OK third in the minor Heavenly Prize Invitational Stakes at Aqueduct March 5 after a nice win in the minor Maryland Racing Media Stakes in February and off-the-board finishes in a trio of stakes races including a ninth in the Grade 3 Comely Stakes in November and a seventh in the Grade 1 Cotillion Stakes in September. Pangburn has been a tad difficult to figure out but chases her first graded stakes score in decent form. Eric Cancel has the mount from the outside gate 6.

Off the Tracks 5-2 - Todd Pletcher trained filly has seven career starts - four wins, a second and two third place finishes. She broke maiden at first asking at Gulfstream last June and went on to a terrific win in the Grade 3 Schuylerville Stakes at Saratoga last July. She returned from a seven month layoff February 21 and posted a good win by 4 1/2 lengths in the minor Margate Handicap February 21 and followed that with an OK third as favorite in the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Oaks April 2, a game second behind Carina Mia in the Grade 1 Acorn Stakes June 11, an impressive win in gate-to-wire fashion in the Grade 1 Mother Goose Stakes at Belmont Park July 2 and an OK third last time out in the Grade 1 Test Stakes on this track August 6. Off the Tracks has placed in all seven starts - competitive every time out. Jose Ortiz is scheduled to ride the morning line favorite from post 7.

Kareena 4-1 - lightly raced Kiaran McLaughlin trained filly has just four career starts with two wins and a second place finish. She made her graded stakes debut last time out and finished a disappointing sixth in the Grade 1 Test Stakes on this track August 6 after a nice win in her stakes bow - the minor Jersey Girl Stakes by 6 1/4 lengths at Belmont Park June 10. Before that was a maiden score by 5 1/2 lengths at Keeneland in April and a second in her debut in March. Kareena will be after a strong bounce back Sunday when she departs from post 9 with Javier Castellano guiding the second betting choice.

Coppa 9-2 - Phil D'Amato trained filly has three career starts and three wins. Last time out was a nice breakthrough win in the Grade 3 Victory Ride Stakes at Belmont Park July 9 after an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Santa Anita in May and a win at first asking in November. Appealing Maggie has been competitive every time out and steps up in very good form from post 5. Christopher DeCarlo has been tabbed to ride.

Dearest 6-1 - impressive Edgard Zerpa trained filly has four wins and a third place finish in her five career starts. She enters on a nice two race win streak - the minor Azelea Stakes July 2 and the minor Royal Palm Stakes June 4 - both at Gulfstream Park, a third in the Grade 2 Davona Dale Stakes on that track in February and two more wins to start her career. Dearest has been a serious factor in every career start and hopes to continue her role from the outside gate 10 Saturday. Edgard Zayas will be in the saddle.

Lucy N Ethel 10-1 - Chloe Bradley trained filly has three career starts and three wins. She hits the track for the first time in nine months Sunday off a good win in her stakes debut - the Grade 3 Old Hat Stakes at Gulfstream Park January 2 after an Allowance score at Parx in December and a maiden score at first asking at Parx in November. Lucy N Ethel was untouchable before her layoff and hopes to pick up where she left off - from gate 2 with Jose Lezcano aboard.

Lost Raven 12-1 - Todd Pletcher trained filly has five wins, a second and a third place finish in 10 career starts. She enters having won three of her last four starts - the minor Coronation Cup last time out on this track August 1, the Grade 3 Miss Preakness Stakes in May and the minor Cicada Stakes in March - she had a fourth in the Grade 3 Victory Ride Stakes sandwiched in there. Lost Raven has looked very good the last six months and will try to make it four wins in five starts from post 3 Sunday. John Velazquez rides.

Coniah 15-1 - Kiaran McLaughlin trained filly has two wins, two seconds and two third place finishes in 10 career starts. She made her graded stakes debut last time out and finished a reasonable third against older competition in the Grade 3 Rancho Bernardo Handicap on this track August 17 after a second in the minor California Governor's Cup Handicap at Sacramento July 23, a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Santa Anita in January, a eighth in the minor Blue Norther Stakes in December and a fifth in the minor Golden Gate Debutante in November. She has placed in her last three starts ahead of this weekend - decent form and will have Irad Ortiz in the saddle from the rail.

Takrees 20-1 - Kiaran McLaughlin trained filly has two wins and three second place finishes in seven career starts. She makes her graded stakes debut off a first-level Allowance score here July 22, a fourth in an Allowance Optional Claiming May 1 and consecutive seconds - the best of which coming behind Lost Raven in the minor Cicada Stakes at Aqueduct in March. Takrees has been OK and will be after her first stakes score from gate 8. Junior Alvarado gets the call.

One True Kiss 20-1 - Steve Asmussen trained filly has two wins, a second and four third place finishes in 13 career starts. She has been decent lately placing in four of her last five ahead of this weekend. Last time out was a slightly disappointing fifth in the Grade 1 Test Stakes here August 6 which followed a third in the Grade 3 Victory Ride Stakes at Belmont Park July 9, another third in the minor Jersey Girl Stakes on that track June 10, a second in the Grade 3 Miss Preakness Stakes in May and an Allowance Optional Claiming score in April. One True Kiss chases her first stakes score in OK form when she departs from gate 4 with Florent Geroux in the reins.
